Getting back in shape, Bay Area (CA)
21.08.2008
After returning from Switzerland, my health condition seemed to me improving; thus, I started with some light training and some fun local races to get back in shape. The events were mostly swim-run combos.
The core run-swim-run-swim-run-swim-run event kicked everything off in style. The concept is simple, you line up at the pier in Santa Cruz in a swim suit and goggles and work your way to the pier in Capitola about 6 miles away. You run on the beach and once you can't go any further you swim around the harbor and some points until you get to the sand again. A great local event to toughen up (cold water, 6am start, kelp, waves, all included for free)
The next event was Andrew Ferguson's Splash and Dash in Cupertino. I came away with a win after a mediocre swim and a good run.
One week later I raced the Del Valle Splash-n-Dash and placed second. Again a decent swim (no wetsuit for me) and a solid run, but I definitely felt a bot worn out after the third event in a row.
Of course, I am still far away from being back in race shape, but it felt good to be out there again and dust off the race gear.

Thanks to all the local race organizers for putting on those fun events (what's not to like about a mid-week blowout with post-race Pizza and Beer?!?).
